Expedition Routes & Itineraries

Option A: Yanomami Expedition (São Gabriel da Cachoeira)

1,000 km NW of Manaus

  • Transit to Base
    Manaus ➔ São Gabriel da Cachoeira: Travel 1,000 km northwest via regional flight (~2 hours) or regional river boat along the upper Rio Negro. Arrive in Brazil’s most indigenous municipality and connect with local native interpreters.
  • Territory Immersion
    Yanomami Lands & Shabono Life: Navigate upper river tributaries into authorized Yanomami territory. Experience communal life within the traditional Shabono, learn ancestral cosmology, traditional weaving, and join native hunters on primary rainforest trails.
  • Return
    Return to Manaus: Riverboat return to São Gabriel da Cachoeira followed by flight or boat passage back to Manaus.

Option B: Sateré-Mawé Expedition (Maués)

450 km E/SE of Manaus

  • Transit to Base
    Manaus ➔ Maués: Travel 450 km via regional flight (~1 hour) or passenger ferry (~18–24 hours) to Maués, the ancestral birthplace of native Guaraná. Transfer to riverboats heading into the Andirá-Marau territory.
  • Territory Immersion
    Guaraná & Tucandeira Ritual: Visit Sateré-Mawé villages to discover wild Guaraná harvesting and traditional roasting. Witness the sacred Tucandeira (Bullet Ant) rite of passage accompanied by traditional chants, dancing, and body painting.
  • Return
    Return to Manaus: Boat navigation back to Maués port/airfield for your return flight or ferry back to Manaus.
